Still My Heart

A small hint of a scent held me to the spot.
Where not so long ago, you grounded me with what you had taught.

You wisely taught me every little thing.
While now I want to stomp and scream, until the sting

Of your passing is less than the fear I felt,
When I could no longer feel you, upon the love we'd built.

Sometimes in the shadows or just beyond my reach,
I thought I'd seen a figure standing ready, again to teach.

But when I moved in closer to see if it was you,
It was only dust the wind stirred up, my heart again was blue.

I'd turn my head in crowds, always knowing you were there,
But found myself with strangers looking, all with a blank stare.

Can't at least our hearts be still and always be one,
Even if one is here and the other forever gone?

But how do I stop my heart from yearning?
From always searching for you with no returning.

I had too little time with you,
 You must've known that too.

It seemed as simple as you walking through a door,
But I stood there waiting for your return, until exhausted I fell to the floor.

That's when I knew and you did too.

That death came knocking, answering it, and soon you'd be cold.
And now you walk where streets are gold or so I've been told.

While I am down here looking for where you may be,
From noon to dusk I look, what's keeping you from me?

Instead of wasting energy in looking for where you are,
I should be loving more with kindness, until my time with you is there.

Where once again we'll be together, our hearts will beat as one.
To never be apart again, then my searching will be done.
