Still July

Sunlight seeps through the blinds, oozes into the room. The ceiling fan sweats from its labor. The clock creeps at half speed, pendulum dragging through syrupy air. On the stoop, the old cat sprawls, soothing her arthritic joints. 7/13/2017

Don't know about the arthritic cat but I do. I 'wake' about 4 times before the 'up' kicks in. With the morning temp around 35' it is hard to get motivated. Need Coffee! Lovely write. God Bless. D.

This is lovely Agnes. This has been a hot summer in my area. I can just see your cat making the best of the heat. Well done, and congratulations on top honors! Dean

Congrats on your win, Agnes! I visited your website. Your photographs are gorgeous. I'd love to see one depicting all your parent's rhododendrons. Maybe you could post it with your Far Away poem!

Thank you for checking out my website. I don't have any picture of my parents' garden, but I did take some pictures in the rhododenron park a few minutes from their house and added one of those to the poem.

I definitely know what you are talking about Agnes. It is 101f/38c here and high humidity and will be like this at least through August. No rain only adds to the misery. I loved your poem though, you described the seasonal temps very well.

Thanks, Chris. Seems like it's miserable throughout large parts of the country.

I have been to the south and Midwest in summer; it's awful. Yes, it is dryer here, but it has been muggier, even out in the desert from what I hear, than in the past. I know you don't think I can imagine your pain, but indeed I can. And let the cat lie on the cool bathroom floor. This poem sounds like something Faulkner or Joyce Carol Oates might've written. Very good.

Thanks for stopping by, Dale. I'm sure you can imagine heat :) I hate summer. The cat refuses to stay in the house and cries until I let her out. I figure she must know what feels good to her. And she has water.

I am hearing it is hot in a lot of places Agnes. It is cool here, actually cold for July and I need to send some cool weather to people :)

Please do! I hate being prisoner in the house. I walk in the mornings, and that is already unpleasant.
