Stevie Smith Reflections

Memory has got deeper, lake deep. There’s a person yoyoing around in the water – it’s a younger image of me. I’m standing on the shore trying to get his attention. He rises to the surface: "What you doing old guy"? He asks. 'I’m trying to save you'! He smirks, swimming on serenely toward this moment.
