Stepping From Fall To Winter
Stepping from fall to winter
is a difficult journey for some,
our minds are still living in orange
as our surroundings turn white,
leaving us confused and in fright.
The warmth of the mighty sun wans,
replaced by chilly and biting winds,
entering our hearts and bones to freeze,
an icy greeting which we try to ignore,
opposite of the sunny sun which we adore.
Embers and snowflakes become our song,
fireplaces are lit to keep us warm and toasty
while a monochromatic wonder exists outside,
dancing crystals flow to the solstice beat,
late night glowing logs no longer keep the heat.
Waiting for old man winter to leave,
counting the days seem to take forever,
animals are smart as they hibernate,
sleeping within a cozy and warm den,
as a human writes this poem with a cold pen.
