Status Quo

You lay by my side,
sound asleep.
I sit there awake,
thinking of us.

You sit up awake,
as I lay there asleep.
We roll over in the morning,
with the sun rising.

We look at each other,
waiting for a connection.
The connection was lost years ago,
when you were seventeen.

Now it’s just the status quo,
to be with you.
