Stars

within the catastrophe awaits a notion
a hook, a thread, an unfurling devotion

forever falling - cascading in time
to always be his and he always mine

sometimes we follow a fading star
find stories in its essence about who we are

about-turn and unravel to expose the substrate
temptation not required for emergence of fate

take a gamble to force the reveal
let go of languor, add tension we can feel

step off the edge and await pure black
find ourselves at the beginning of the very same track

I know him, I've known this but let me dive deeper
uncover the secrets not even known to their keeper

embrace the objective, move ahead of the curve
be inside the slow dance, but simultaneously observe

view backwards, race past predestination
objectively witness moments of true captivation

see from a distance what cognition requires
show me the equation that explains our desires

for we circle and cross and create maps in the sky
bound on this path and I need to know why

there must be wisdom to our blinking pulsation
a purpose that explains all of creation

let me learn of the spark and effervesce in the trail
become one with the meaning as you lift the veil

let me overload and explode into glorious ash
to immerse and burn out in final rapturous flash

Yes I wrote in rhyme as a means of disguise as I'm usually free verse :)

Dear LG, When i read this first while judging, I was thinking, how unique is this take? How impressive and how thought provoking and what a poem that rhymes but sounds so natural nothing forced just effortlessly shining and touching the soul of reader, like no other, this has so many lines that made me feel so deeply especially “I know him, I've known this but let me dive deeper uncover the secrets not even known to their keeper” wow! Just so very evocative! I felt that! Congratulations on your win! Thank you for joining! Sending you light always

A beautiful vision of the stars LG, and all in flawless couplets, maybe reflecting binary systems, I often ponder if the secrets are ever known to their keeper; it is a slow dance for a very long time, until that rapturous flash from the ash, how good is that line to finish on, lots of other juicy lines to (view backwards) as we do when observing, I can only imagine Ink will love this powerful piece, a great one for the contest and a fave from storm Dave lol!

I have zero interest in living forever - maybe I'd be tempted if breaks were built in and felt but the entirety still fit together concertina style rather than an endless loop... Life and stars need a story arc and intensity :)

Oh definitely! I always prefer to see these cosmic poems go out with a cataclysmic flash, I feel sorry for the red dwarfs though, they almost live forever, not one has ever died naturally in the history of the universe!

Haha - I had to return home amidst storm Dave as the dog said 'no chance' when the hail stones started :) that's a powerful fave in my pocket, thank you! I was hoping for a unique angle, so I chanced a few unpoetic words that fit the macro/micro v reincarnation layering I was trying for. I have to confess I almost swooned when I wrote "be inside the slow dance, but simultaneously observe" ha - it feels like it encompasses my poetry style somehow :) the secret keepers probably don't know the half of it - I wonder if 'feeling' is bigger than knowing. Thanks for picking out the bits I'm most pleased with :) ha that rapturous flash seemed the only ending that makes sense!
