Stars

let me forget you
so that i won't know what i'm missing

i want
more than anything
to separate myself from the world
to need and know only me and my family
and a handful of friends
because i would be lying if i said
the people i most wish loved me
actually loved me

the people i most wish loved me
would not care if one day
i stopped talking to them forever
their life would move on without a ripple
as if i was merely a shooting star
forever falling towards the water
but only ever touching its reflection

and they said they liked stars
but of course from a distance
because close up it is but a flame
too dangerous to embrace

It's a tough world out there, Brooklyn. By far... our truest friend is within. It's a tough lessons to learn.
