Stargazer

This day,
I let you go,
and the sky is brighter,
sea-like,
clouds of waves,
and the breeze is silky,
teasing......
still I let you go.
The birds sing out at me,
I see their brown heads through my flowered curtains,
their song is
"why, dear, oh why?"
and yet I let you go,
 released,
like stars in a deep blanket of
pitch black midnight.
I sent you to them,
they'll hold you firmer,
tighter than I ever learned how,
fist-like tight in a twinkle of quickening light,
and just like that,
I'm a star gazer.
