Stardust

I grew to love the things I once hated—
the color of my eyes, the hesitation at the beginning of my eyebrows, my eyelashes and the way they curl
when the wind says hello.
That was until my eyes met yours.

Then every barrier I built shattered like glass,
and the whole world shifted within me.
In your gaze, I found a version of myself I had never known how to love.

You painted me on a fresh canvas—
different from the rest.
My eyes turned into new shades of brown:
mocha at dusk, hazel in warm rooms, stardust and gold beneath the sun.
And ever since I met you, I have loved myself.

For I now know you will never find the color of my eyes, the beginning of my brows, the curl of my lashes
in anyone else.
