Stardust

We peruse delicate
papyrus pages
paintings on plaster
cavern walls
Dig deep in the dirt
Sift through the dust
searching for the
origin of us
I have heard
scientists say
we are all stars
If that is so
I am the one
faintly flickering
that very few
take the trouble
to see
The one that
nobody ever
wishes upon
yet I'll keep
burning
until I am gone
Maybe someday
someone
somewhere
will care
to notice me
