Stages of Love

STAGES OF LOVE
The young can always dance Their life has numbers without end Their nights have splendors of romance Their banks have more than they can spend. It’s Easy to create a happy tale A life where joy will follow day by day Where every woman finds a male That charms her and will rarely stray. But find a couple that put heart in truth Of love that starts where others end It may sound foolish—and uncouth but aging lovers crave a stalwart friend. Regard a man that isn’t dashing or well kept Or think twice about a woman who may need a tuck or two Who have Grown children who still demand her love Ungrateful or off somewhere sniffing glue. Young lovers have a reason every night to dance Easily they rise with grace to greet a splendid sun Their nights are spent in deliciously and smoothly planned romance Without a worry for the endless nights to come. But give me lovers who have battled through the nights Who’ve sorrowed through long days boldly faced alone While mending cracked parental hearts for ungrateful offspring who seem to thrive on spite Kin fashioned not of blood, but bred of a modern alien stone. Show me weary lovers who in silence crave a true born heartfelt glance Welcome caressing arms that soothe and hold them thru the night Starlit embrace recalls the rhythm of love’s dance-- Slowly divine— and miraculously, essential parts fit together just right.
