Stage Fright

She walked up to the center stage,
Took her guitar out of its case.
She adjusted the mic to suit her height.
A spotlight shone upon her face.

She cleared her throat, hit a chord,
And tried to stop her hands from shaking.
This was her very first time performing.
She prayed it wasn't a mistake she was making.

It was only the confidence she lacked,
The talent was there, there was no doubt.
She had so many songs inside her
And now she knew they must be let out.

She belted out the lyrics she'd written,
The audience clapped after every song.
By the end of the set she couldn't stop smiling,
Her decision to come here hadn't been wrong.

I am giving this the top mark for a selfish reason and here's why- I have been in that very situation and it resonates with me to a considerable degree. So, there you have it. Thanks and regard, Gerard

Love it, Francine!!!! Nicely done. I can feel the performer's apprehension, tension and relief. Thanks for sharing. Joe
