Squirrel In the Yard

brain cells eat up the sky
they taste like the dreams of mad children
look out the cognitive window
and see the lions in the den

blood clots at the mouth of the creek
it stops the flow and it feels so hard
look out the cognitive window
and see the squirrel in the yard

the tree is much closer than it was yesterday
a tree cannot move, it can only beg and stay
this is a signal, climb into your brain
are you ready to lose, are you ready to cry in pain

sleep, sleep tonight
he's scrawling on the roof
dream, dream tonight
he's crawling on you

do you see the white picket fence
there's blue and green in its eyes
it's so cold in the furry red jacket
or is it him, lying dead on the ground

the tree is much closer than it was yesterday
a tree cannot move, it can only beg and stay
this is a signal, climb into your brain
are you ready to lose, are you ready to cry in pain

sleep, sleep tonight
he's scrawling on the roof
dream, dream tonight
he's crawling on you

Great lyrics, this, with the refrain. I love the metaphors you use in your poetry.
