Spring's Salute
Spring’s Salute
Somewhere
beneath the icy crust
a diamond awaits.
The laboring March sun
thins the crust
a layer at a time
sharpening
the edges
of crystal facets
unveiling
the faded sparkle
of old smiles.
April winds
waft earthen scent
of joy
summon
the hope
of passing clouds
sprinkling color
across diamond’s
green.
Silence lifts
upraised on shouts
of Spring
soft soil
awaits the touch
of happy feet
flags bask
slow dancing
in the sun
salute Spring’s
halcyon call
