spring heralding

folded the sheep's skin
first bromeliads blossom
cape starlings less puffed
we wake from underbelly
soft oranges fall exposed

This is a beautifully crafted tanka that perfectly captures the subtle transitions of spring. You balance the tactile warmth of putting away winter—like folding the sheep's skin and noticing the starlings are "less puffed"—with the vibrant, colorful emergence of bromeliads and soft oranges. The phrase "wake from underbelly" adds a wonderful layer of vulnerability to the changing season, all while maintaining a flawless 5-7-5-7-7 rhythm. Striking imagery from start to finish!

ThkU Alison ~ actually I wrote it in response to Tania’s contest on Autumn - Americanos often forget there is a South. Lol. 😀
