Spring

spring brings first catch of the sun
earth moves nudity undone
we weathered the grim labours
until embrace - self respun

Congratulations on your second-place win, Laurentine, with this excellent jueju. The strong opening image: ‘spring brings first catch of the sun’ feels immediate and seasonal. The closing couplet, with its smooth enjambment, has a philosophical turn: ‘we weathered the grim labours / until embrace self respun’. The final phrase (3 syllables) lands well after the natural pause and the phraseology compliments the first line.

We take inspiration from sources as they presented them - even my inspiration for contests:)

Thank you so much Su, I was pleased when this came together :) I can thank the actual first bit of sun as it shone on me and I wrote the first line haha :)

I dont think ive ever written a jueju, but now im curious and eager to try one after reading your beautiful one! So well woven! And gives that soul warming effect with the serene imagery of the spring sun! How stunning! Pleasure reading this. If this is for a contest. Best wishes! Sending you light always

This is so clever Laurentine, a jeuju with meaningful personification, the lines are both creative and innovative, not easy to achieve with so few words, a great one for contest, cheers David

Thanks David - the sun was actually shining on me to inspire the first line but the second line arrived without warning lol - the rules were quite complex for this contest, so it had me thinking outside the box, but I'm not sure I've quite met the requirements. I enjoyed writing for a contest though - I definitely need the practice for writing differently to ignite some of the previous poet areas of my brain and see what they can do. Thank you for your visit :)
