Spreading Rumours

She had a talk with her belief, A belief of what she never saw, Her belief wanted to believe, She’d seen what she yearned for, So she told a story of her belief, A story she’d soon deny, A fantastic story of small sick things, But this story was a lie, Her belief of what she had to do, To fit in with the crowd, Would lead to the death of a man, When the truth was disallowed, You see, she created a lie, Believing a rumour to begin, An avalanche of falsity, To make her fit right in.

An avalanche of falsity to make her fit right in. What? This poem had already delighted me, but this line made me stand up and cheer. Whoa!

This is a great way to demonstrate the toxicity of gossip! I enjoyed it and loved that you wrote about romors’ relevance to “fitting in.”

Hi Brendan, yep, rumours often begin by people who want to be more important than they see themselves as, I believe :)
