Spread Your Wings, Kailee

My friend says she's a turtle
Locked away in her shell
But that's only to people
Who don't know her very well

In reality she's a caterpillar
That hasn't made her cocoon
She will become a butterfly,
And that should happen very soon!

She said I am a lion
And that I protect the weak
But inside I feel small and shy,
And very very meek.

On the outside I may look big
Yet I feel very small
I'll admit I have a big heart
And it has room for all.

So my friend, I want you to see
That what you are you'll not always be,
Right now you may heave and sigh
But soon you'll be a butterfly!

I would like to dedicate this poem to my best friend and fellow poet here on poetry soup, Kailee Ottman. Who is not only and amazing person but someone I can always rely on and trust. Thank you for always being there, and like I say in choir, feel free to "Lean On Me." May you find happiness in all you do and take comfort in the fact that I will forever remain your friend. That's a promise.
