Spine

What do you need from me?

I'm here to lick your self-inflicted wounds,
Turning selfish hearts, in time, to something far more valid.

I'm here, a spine, for selfless times,
A backbone if it's needed.

I'm here, and here to stay.

Nifty use of metaphor... for free verse there is still a pleasing flow and some effective assonance. Well done, Annie! Best wishes, Keith Check soup mail.
