Speech Comes Back In Spurts and Sputters

Loud crack!
first thought, why did I not wear a ….
the word helmet does not come right away
or at all

Eyes float shut
Someone yells for me to open them
I am drifting
Want to rest

Face close to my face 
commands me to stay awake
they get me to the hospital
prognosis not great

speech comes back
in spurts and sputters
long time healing
headaches severe

sometimes see an R
when I should have seen a 7
especially overwhelmed when
I am tired

Comes back in spurts and sputters
brain nothing to fool with
wear a helmet

Caren Krutsinger January 2, 2019 at 11:52 PM I had a bad bike wreck once upon a time, without a helmet. Should have been killed. Cannot believe I got by with only breaking my foot and leg in 5 places.

I cringe when I see these helmet-less motorcycle riders on the freeway, wondering if their mothers know. Wishing I had their mother's phone numbers.
