Special Delivery
I see you walk down the hall.
Your face is tense with pain.
You stop to lean against the wall.
Contraction over once again.
Our journey is about to begin.
By your side I will stay.
I take your hand and reassure.
Wipe your fears and cares away.
I am calm now, you are too.
This is such a joyous day.
Someone waits to greet you.
I just help them on their way.
Steady heartbeat sounding strong.
We are almost there.
You pant as the head is born.
Excitement is in the air.
Onto your tummy I lay your child.
As she gasps then starts to cry.
I write Normal Delivery in my file.
But think "How amazing" with a sigh.
