As short days stretch, long nights shrink;
Sol hangs higher in the sky.
And the haunting, honking cry
of wild guess, push Winter to the brink.
Robin redbreasts are the first
to vocalize signs of Spring.
Unabashed, they sweetly sing;
as warm showers quench life's growing thirst.
Beneath shrouds of frozen flakes,
daffodils and crocus grow.
And green grassy patches show;
for a bit of warmth is all it takes.
Sprouting shoots poke through the snow,
piercing white with spears of green.
And Spring arrives on the scene;
thawing the rivers to, once more, flow.
