Sparky
I had an old friend
One I’ll never forget.
We were always together
From the time that we met.
Yes, we were unique
It’s tough to explain
When one of us hurt
We both felt the pain.
My friend wasn’t human
And his breed wasn’t pure
He was part Lab Retriever
The other part I’m not sure.
I called him Sparky
His fur was pitch-black
He had a nice calm demeanor
Sorta matter-of-fact.
He was real great with children
That goes without saying
And was ever so gentle
Any time they were playing.
He was a part of the family
And was treated as such.
He didn’t beg at the table
Or bark or growl too much.
I miss him immensely
Since he passed away.
He was a loving companion
What more can I say.
Yes, Sparky is gone now
in a physical way
but his spirit remains
till my dying day.
In memory of my best friend ever.
