Spanish Conquest

Segovia, Segovia, proud city on a hill, So steeped in ancient history, your beauty charms me still. The Roman aqueduct remains a marvel to admire And cobbled streets wind upwards to the golden Gothic spire. You boast a princely palace with a fairytale allure, And cultural traditions which from time long past endure. Yet something greater draws me to the city of Madrid- For architecture can't compete with bread rolls stuffed with squid!* 15.07.19 * Madrid is famous for its culinary speciality of calamari(squid) sandwiches 'H W Longfellow Inspired Poetry Contest' : sponsored by Julia Ward: One original poem on the theme of Segovia and Madrid. Light verse only. Compulsory names within the poem - Segovia, Madrid.

Thanks,Kim. I couldn't stomach the idea of squid either! The texture would put me off for a start!
