Spades

A friendship like ours, is one to be kept
A treasure in the sands of our lives
Buried deep, under cover, until we first met
and the spades to uncover it arrived

Spades made of laughter
Spades made of tears
that sought out this treasure
that we've held for years
But this treasure held wisdom
and opinion too
and by not really listening
I fell out with you

We took back our spades, from where they'd been left
and started to dig in the sand.
we buried that treasure, right where it was found
and our reasons, I don't understand

So give me this moment to hand back your spade
Lead you, by the hand, to our beach
and unnearth the treasure, we so willfully lost
And this time our friendship we'll keep.
