Souvenirs of Love

The souvenirs of love from long ago
are weighing heavy on my mind tonight;
my memories of when our love would glow
with fire and passion and the world seemed bright.

The newness of our union did create
the souvenirs of love from long ago
which now leaves my doubtful mind to debate
the failures made, and things I do not know.

Your abrupt departure was such a blow,
and leaving now my sad heart broken, and
the souvenirs of love from long ago
reminders of our life together planned.

I ask you why you threw our love away,
and left my heart pending in life’s escrow;
forever doubtful is my mind to weigh
the souvenirs of love from long ago.

Almost song-like, so melancholy laced and moving. Your write touched me and said touch I suspect will linger awhile. Poetry hugs ... CayCay

CayCay, I'm glad to hear that my words touched you but I hope I didn't leave you feeling melancholy. I am working on something a little more upbeat, check back tomorrow. John

You did very nicely with Joseph's form here, John. Good luck to you. I really want to do this one myself. I just can't seem to find time to do all the things I want to do these days!!

Haha, I hope you know I made that comment tongue-in-cheek, but it’s nice to know I’m not placed in a stuffy box with the others! John

Oh so sadly beautiful John. I love your rhyme scheme and the lovely rhythm of your write. A very heartfelt and tragic poem of lost love and a broken heart. Best wishes for a win.. ~Susan
