My mother’s husband had a strong desire To earn his pilot wings in his own right Flying with his friend had stoked the fire His dear friend’s death stalled his return to flight As I looked on I wished for me it true To fly a plane had been my lifelong dream Imagine my joy when he asked me to Pursue the pilot’s license as a team His wife, my mother, did not like our plan She cried and urged that we should turn it down Afraid she’d end up losing both her men Our unfulfilled dream was a huge letdown To fly a plane, was a sad, stupid dream Don’t speak of it again or I will scream! Okay- I promise not to speak of this dream. :) I don't wish to hear you scream. Lol. Excuses will always keep someone from reaching their dreams. You have expressed this so well. ~ Brandy

Thank you, Brandy, for your delightful comment. Now my dreams are certainly well-grounded, which is another way to say that I'll never learn to fly :)

When we can't follow our dream, we make excuses for it. Marvelous poem!

Exactly, Carly! Maybe the excuses are necessary for us to process it and move on. I appreciate the nice compliment :)

There's a daredevil in us all and we do like to chase our dreams sometimes. Well written sonnet Mark.

G'day Mark … I always thought that if man was meant to fly, God would have given him wings. A sonnet with an interesting tale and told well - thank you Mark - Lindsay
