Sounds of Autumn

Beneath the garden wood pile I hear sounds of excavation As a hedgehog starts preparing for his autumn hibernation My tortoise getting drowsy ready for his autumn sleep Is tunnelling beneath the debris of the garden rubbish heap Squirrels burying nuts and acorns, planning for the months ahead Know exactly where to find them when requiring to be fed Red berries bright and glistening on my Holly Bush so prickly An autumn treat for birds, as they scoff them oh so quickly I would really love to hibernate from autumn through to spring I could snore through all the snow and ice and wake up really thin Vermillion Autumn Couplets Sponsor: Vermillion Scythe Contest:APRIL 2019 PREMIER 4,ANY FORM ,ANY THEME ,UPTO A MAX OF 10( T E N) Lines Sponsor: Brian Strand H.M. in Premier Contest

Lovely sights and sounds in your poem, Ann. You painted autumn's portrait well!

Nice to meet you Vijay and thank you so much for your encouraging comments, especially "you painted autumn's portrait well" - that is beautiful, and I truly wish I could paint onto a canvas and hang it on my wall. Ann x

Many thanks Gordon, yes autumn is a most colourful time and as I wade through the crisp autumn leaves crunching them underfoot, it takes me back to when I was a young girl - wonderful, enjoy your walk through the woods, Ann x

Your rhymes are crispily done, precise. I can picture these birds scarfing down the holly berries! But the ending is a classic. Nicely done, Ann. Very cute ending!

Thanks so much Caren, I used to love autumn, but it holds many sad memories for me, as it leads up to December when my darling went. I really wish I could hibernate and of course the added bonus of being slim in the spring would be great, haha! Happy days, Ann xx
