Author's Notes: This particular verse is one that I wrote today on the spur of the moment as I was thinking about what the "souls of the dead" know that what we don't. This certainly is not a topic or theme that people commonly think about unless they are writers, poets, theologians, and philosophers. This may be a general explanation of why the souls of the dead spark no real interest among the living in the fast-paced modern world of today. Regardless of this, the souls of the dead and their place in God's cosmic eternity shall edge closer and closer to each and every one of us, as we all shall one day crossover from this mortal coil and walk the cosmic trails of infinity. Souls of the Dead souls of those who have passed on are keenly aware of our mortal coil, for they once were part of this earthen world that many of us now nonchalantly take for granted since—just as sure as the sun rises in the morning and sets in the evening—this makes us all creatures of habit reflective of our innate finite nature and a possessive incurious proclivity toward things ethereal and oft lacking a true sense of the cosmic imagination and certitude that God wishes for us over time to seek out as part of our divine destiny that awaits us in eternity far beyond this mortal world—for the souls of the dead know this already. A poem of much philosophical, existential depth, Gary. A great "thinking-person's poem." Serious rumination stuff! Excellent sublime poetry. Love and peace, brother.

A very thought provoking verse you have written Gary, but until our time comes we will never know, there seems to be a giant wall between life and death that neither can cross. Tom

Hello Tom, Many Thanks for your read here and for your most observant comment. You are certainly right about what you say. No one living on this Earth, including all of the famous religious prelates, can really, truly proffer what lies beyond that "giant wall" you mention until it comes each for our souls to crossover. Each of us shall one day find out for sure!! Best Wishes, Gary

Mein freund you have touched the "untouched" reality that we, as long as we are enclosed in a body, will never know! When we talk about death is just a figure of speech for we never die, we just change mode of existing! One thing I am certain that we will be all so surprised with what we will discover. Things will be so "obviously simple" that within a body we cannot perceive. God doesn't wish to reveal the truth about death for no-one would like...to stay alive! Haha! A philosophical writing dealing with the mystery of death my friend, Gary that will give us the answers on the other side! Till then...let us imagine!

Hallo Herr Professor!! Demetrios, Ich bedanke mich sehr fuer dein Kommentar hier. Ich finde alles was du meinst ganz in ordnung zu sein!! Yes, most certainly you are right about this. In reality, we all never really die beyond the human reality of Shakespeare's famous "mortal coil." I've written a great deal about this religious and metaphysical question. We much imagine for now, but one day we shall truly be on that other side. Maybe the both of us can both compare notes then!! LOL!! Meine Hochachtung!! Gary

that you mentioned the fast moving life of the modern world in your prologue was appropriate....for, there are those here, now, in time, who are not of the fast moving modern world... they are, comparatively speaking, dead...wandering the world, going about their business and watching those about them who believe... "they...are alive!"

Hello Sand Blown, Thank you for your read and comment here. And, thanks also for the other perspective you've presented about those alive-dead presently wandering the world well-removed from the fast moving modern world. A very interesting perspective indeed. You ought to write a poem about that counter-perspective. It would be very interesting!! Best Wishes, Gary

Thanks Arturo!! I wrote this one as a thought-piece in an attempt to underscore the everyday nature of human beings. This is certainly an age-old topic or theme that has been considered by many of the classic writers before our time. I've tried to make my footprint on this topic with this new free verse. Cheers and Best, Gary

I like this a bunch, Gary.Death is never far from my mind, as the older I get, I know my time is about up. After my mom passed away last year, I struggled for a while about my own mortality. This would be an excellent conversation to have with you. i enjoyed this thought provoking write very much. The poems that come on the spur of the moment are always the best:)

Hello Danny, Thanks for your really nice note here about this topic. With both of my parents now long dead, as well as many of my relatives, I tend to think more of what does await us all when that "Big Transition" actual occurs. And you're right -- the poems that come on the spur of the moment are always the best!! Enjoyed your thoughts very much!! Cheers and Best, Gary
