Sorrow's Hour

The night in sorrow dark is wrapped
I know not why, I know not why
Against my heart the tap, tap, tap
And streaming tears of silent cry.
A heavy, heavy heart strays
Where a dark tide plays.

Perhaps some long love gone recalled
To vain audience of memory
Perhaps the unkown tragedy enthralled
The swift flight of short history
Perhaps, perhaps, perhaps is all
That make the cup more gall.

Blood suckers buzz around my sky
But nothing drains the marsh
Of memory ... love alone cannot die
The fire burns heart, and harsh
Each swelling of the flame
A knell, a knell that knows my name.
