Sonnet of Comic Redemption
SONNET OF COMIC REDEMPTION
Once when that black ice cloud enclosed me again
Penetrated mind and heart, freezing all aspiration
Taking me below resentment fear or pain
To a hopeless state of dull weary enervation
I heard a voice that transformed my demeanour
A fabled comic in stand up routine performing
His art, vitality and zest were my spirit's redeemer
Divinely decadent achieving a mind's reforming
The fog of despondence dispersed and I saw light
And hugged myself for shared mirth and life restored
Situation unchanged yet somehow was alright
I could face it - it no longer had me floored
So may joviality spread from Jupiter to Saturn and Mars
And let joy and laughter echo round the stars
Competition: Taking a disappointment etc
