Sonnet For Our Superman

(I saw someone post a poem recently about Christopher
Reeves and it reminded me of this oldie of mine)

He didn’t come from Krypton. . . was not sent
to earth with any special kind of power.
He wasn’t a reporter named Clark Kent,
but like that role he played, he didn’t cower
when struck by his own brand of Kryptonite
named quadriplegia, which couldn’t stay
this fellow who inspired with his might,
enduring trials bravely day to day.
He did not have Lex Luther as a foe
but fought for what was right, so now we grieve
because this hero that we came to know
was taken from our world. Dear Mr. Reeves
gave a human face to a fictive name,
then went back to the place from whence he came.

For PD's Contest: "My Latest Poem on the Soup"
(naughty PD, I had only three to choose from, all
the others were in contests, but this is sure a unique
way to do a contest!!)

I liked how you compared his quadriplegia to Superman's kryptonite, and his struggles to Lex Luther. An endearing tribute to the man and actor, Andrea.

i'm glad you re posted. you awoke a memory of a long lost friend. i just wrote C.L. about the loss of his dog and mine. i know from a recent loss that sometimes the greatest gift that you could give is the gift of peace. i am sure that when he got to heaven that when God offered him his wings, he oppted out for a cape instead. a cape in exchange for a chair? now that's what i call glory. john

he was a wonderful actor .. a nice memento in his honor Andrea.. only one Superman for this time zone.. unless u go way back in time to the first one George Reeves who jumped out the window to his death in the 50's with the costume he wore on T V .. imagine .. that is taking it too far.. nicer to remember Christopher Reeves this way luv..

Yes I really liked Christopher Reeves, I have all the superman Movies, and thought he did a fine job. but it was the things he did off screen that made him great, a fine tribute to a fine man. Thank you kind lady for your comment on Lonely Cherry Tree.
