Sonnet For Chickadees
I hear the whisper of your feathered wings
As you alight upon the lilac bough
Your melodic trilling makes my heart sing
I smile so wide as my face will allow
In your beak I espy long worms wriggling
Then notice the twig nest beneath your feet
Twin babes peep loudly as children giggling
Mouths opening up to receive their treat
How long have you lived here I ask aloud
In this blossoming tree under the sun
Blue skies stretch forever – nary a cloud
Natural beauty here second to none
Farewell for now my little chickadees
Watching you has put my old heart at ease
