Sonnet 6 'I Have a Little Child Within Me Still'

I have a little child within me, still… Still as the falling snow fall'n down at night, He wants his Laurie, and will wait, until She comes… and takes him upward to his Flight. It is not weakness, selfishness, nor pain! He knows, She’ll lead him forward through the dark, And, though he stumble, he will ne'er again Fall down and get up bleeding, at the park! For I, and She have taken both his hands And we will bear him up, and give him toast, And pour him nectar in a little cup, And say, through all, he’s been… of boys, the most Refined, polite, and wise… we’ll fill him up And teach him he is good, and need not fear And keep his birthday, stay, and hold him dear…
