Song of Mortality

A song of mortality

Begins somewhere distant near the horizon

With the immensity of the sea

A rhythmic rolling in time to a sound from her depths

As it has always been and always will be

A continuous voicing of wind and water

Singing and longing of forever

From where we once came so we recognize her lament

She heaves in and out

Count out the seconds between her rages

A descending trough and rising crest

With each an increase in strength and volume

She swells and gathers momentum and increases her tempo

Her dark mouth opens and stretches to take us in

As she arrives in a collapsing fall to embrace the shore.
