Son To Son
When I was but a youngster
In the folly of my day
I splashed around a swimming pool
Before I knew my way
The water quickly sucked me in
And I began to drown
I knew my life was over then
As I was going down
I must have made a mighty splash
As I was sinking fast
Although the wave that covered me
Was claiming me at last
I didn’t have a chance to say
Please help me if you can
I simply said goodbye to life
Before I was a man
Then suddenly to my surprise
My father pulled me out
He sat me on the water’s edge
As I began to pout
He didn’t pay attention
To the tears I must’ve shed
He didn’t seem to mind at all
That I was nearly dead
I know that he was teaching me
To think about my play
A father knows the dangers
That are leading us astray
Today I am a daddy
And my boy and I are one
We learn of life together
As we grow from son to son.
