Somnus
Wrought iron gates greet the eyes
Looming like deception and lies
Such a petty endeavor to seek valor
With such a ghastly pallor
This place was supposed to heal
But trapped is all I really feel
The walls look down upon me
Promising I'll never again be free
Such menacing messages on tapestries
Tormenting my soul and bringing me to my knees
Little imperfections here and there
But little did anyone truly care
I could evade the whispers in the walls
And the rattling in my head that makes me pause
Wake me, shake me, even break me
With lurid eyes and hurried lies you'd even flee
The irony I suppose is I could walk away
These facetious walls can't make me stay
Sunlight splashes across the entrance hall
Where I watched you brawl, bawl, and crawl
Your craven need for this squalor
Divines in my mind the heart of a scholar
You need for nothing but want for everything
It surely stings when the walls don't sing
But I'm made a victim by the weakness in your eyes
Assuredly promising my own demise
Love made a fool of my heart
Ruthlessly ripping the strings apart
I'm surely down to the last thread
In time you'll be face down and dead
And I'll finally leave this place a broken man
With nary a future to plan
And I'll look back one last time
Ignoring the stench and grime
Wrought iron gates greet the eyes
Looming like deception and lies
