Somewhere Under the Rainbow
Under the rainbow
we have blue skies and
amazing sunsets
Under the sunset
silhouetted chimney tops
on the horizon
Walking, looking up
not at familiar houses
but at shared heavens
I imagine, feel
I'm anywhere else
even out of state
Just strolling along
in the rural countryside
Or an East coast town
If I was there, too
wouldn't I go for a walk
or a long bike ride
Can't get there from here
so I just transport my thoughts
hiking quietly
Hey I'll cross over
to another neighborhood
pretend it's elsewhere
Forget where I am
wherever I go, I'm there
with myself, still -- Me --
The sky reaches out
connects Me to All of us
-- who live far away
If no one's watching
one can even pretend-fly
gaze up, flap arms slow...
Or, if on a bike
don't look at the pedaling
just look up... soaring
Envision treetops
soaring under/ over/ through
just do not look down
Feels almost like it
like dream-flying; you know how
the rush, the escape
You know it's working
if your stomach has this twinge
excited/ homesick
Tummy butterflies
same as when you were a kid
at a sleepover
Saves lots of money
to imagine, or just read
about somewhere else
No place is perfect
(even Dorothy learned that's true)
at least home is HOME
Why not be content
blessed* where I am now
somewhere under the rainbow
*I changed "stuck" to "blessed" to convey the more positive attitude I'm trying to get at
