Somewhere Near Forever

If you can taste
  the honey
      Then you've obtained
the marrow
   Gentle breeze
   teaches you what
  you need to know
sweetness if what
 we crave
Yet we can't eliminate
the bitter
   from the mixture
The roads we travel
  are not always
clear pathways
  Some are strewn with
rocks
  Making it dangerous
to pass that way
  As I said before
  if you taste the honey
    then you've obtained
the marrow
   Our fate is
like a wave recedin
   from the shore
The moment of majesty
and glory
passes quickly
   as water returns
to its source
  If you can
taste the honey
    Then you have
 obtained the marrow
Unreal city
    glows at night
Thousands of lives
   blending into a
tapestry
Trying to fufill your destiny
   is a daunting task
Urban creatures
    struggle with
their daily tasks
   If you can taste
the honey
  Then you have obtained
the marrow

This is just a beautiful poem... I love the reputation that brings all the images in the poem together. Thank you so much for taking the time to comment on Unfurled... and I never thought about it as part of Eowyn's point of view... but now it seems perfect! Haha maybe that's why she was my favorite character in the books.

Much for the reader to ponder in this one. Nice use of imagery. Thank you for your kind comments on my poem. I can't wait for spring either. We're having our worst blizzard of the season right now. The interstate is closed and the snow keeps coming. Keep on writing! Karen

Good write, Matthew. I like the last few lines that start at, 'Thousands of lives blending into a tapestry'...

sweetness if what/ sweetnes IS what..yes? like a wave recedin/ receding..yes? ..and to get to the marrow you have to break the bone which is excruciating. The concept of Yin/Yang is what you have discribed here and very colorfully. Nice write thanks for reading me! Light & Love

Trying to fulfill your destiny is indeed a daunting task - excellent line. Awesome write and love the repetition of that one line! Nice work. Love, Shar
