Something Old Something New

NEW POEM

Today I stand alone
At a tall black microphone
As I open up the show
To an audience I don’t know
Such an honour to be asked
reciting poetry from the past
Dedicated to sweet souls
whose words now long forgotten
And for just a while I take them
to a peaceful magical place
As my words have moved
their hearts and souls
emotions they can barely hold
Accompanied by music
from the song
“You Raise Me Up”
The more I read
The more I say
Brings tears of emotion to their eyes
just how my words would move them
I truly did not realise
They moved me too
words I had written
Words read out loud
from me to you
And as the music starts to play
we start to sing
“You Raise Me Up”
I start to cry
I don’t know why
it always makes me cry…
The audience too their tears doth flow
so proud my words have moved them so
For I am truly on a high
My heart and soul are in the sky
My poem now comes to an end
My spirit smiles with exultation
to cheers ~ applause ~ a celebration
They raise the roof as souls entwine
they almost touch the sky

For today I really made their day
and they have made mine too
Monies going to Parkinson’s UK
we pray a cure is found one day

So blessed to be able to sing am I
with our wonderful Parkinson’s choir
It is food for my heart each time I take part
With lovely friends who like me have “P”
Singing together
I could not feel any higher
And tonight on this stage
I feel almost on fire…

After opening the concert
So emotional am I
Such an honour to be asked
To read my poem from the past
And even though today
A week has now gone by
My heart and soul are still up there
somewhere in the sky…
