Something Is Out There

Standing alone

At the shoreline tonight

I drop to my knees

Something’s not right

In the back of my mind

There is this thing you see

A something that is quiet

But won’t let me be

As fast as I run

I know it is there

I try to stand still

To catch it unaware

This something is cunning

And lightning fast

I know if I am strong

It really won’t last

The wind in my face

The rain at my back

This something is close

Poised for attack

I kneel quietly in reverence

Trying to correct

My old tired ways

In search of respect

Standing alone

At the shoreline tonight

What only seemed dark

Now shines truly bright
