Someday She'D Be a Swan
She stood alone in the decorated gym
Waiting with hope and fear
Her very best friend was dancing with him
Still she dreamed of holding him near
She wouldn't care if he made a pass
Even though she was quite shy
She thought of him in every class
But she was too young to know why
The angst and agony of being a teen
Was quite evident tonight
She knew very well she had been seen
But all she got was a slight
To be the last one picked to dance
Was awful beyond measure
And here she was in that circumstance
Even though she was a treasure
On her the boys did take a pass
She was thought of as a geek
Remarks were made so crude and crass
But she turned the other cheek
She'd wait till she got home to cry
Wouldn't let them see her tears
To her mama she'd wail"why oh why?"
And tell her of all her fears
Some day this girl would be a queen
And admired for her mind
Until then she'd just be another teen
Living through things unkind
