Solitude

Ah! To be adrift upon the boundless sea sailing, sailing, sailing! Alone with the sea and pristine sky with southerly winds prevailing. No particular destination in mind as upon the surging sea I plod, Nor is there another soul in view as I quietly commune with God! Ah! To be alone at night in the desert pondering, pondering, pondering! I lie to refresh my weary bones after a day of vagabond wandering, Savoring the soothing quietude with gentle zephyrs caressing my face, Gazing heavenward as constellations wink at me from outer space! Ah! To scale the highest mountain where even eagles dare not fly! The precious solitude of it all! I can reach out and touch the sky. Such divine inspiration it brings to this mere mortal's languid soul, As God's Creation beyond is revealed for me to relish and extol! Ah! To amble down a forest path when autumn leaves adorn the trees! Gold and crimson leaves waft about me, stirred by an occasional breeze. I'm awed by the Master Artist's handiwork no mere artist dare portray. This priceless solitude and beauty I shall treasure forever and a day! Ah! To lie 'neath a shade by a rippling stream and dream, dream, dream! Watching vagabond clouds scudding across the sky in solitude supreme! I suppose there are folks who prefer to mingle with the multitude, But I treasure time alone to muse and write in peaceful solitude! Entry for Line Gauthier's "The Beauty of Solitude" Contest

That poem is a masterpiece. It depicts the most specific places to enjoy solitude the best. Here's another challenging category I'm tempted to conquer. Shower us with more of these. DKay

This is pure awesomeness, Robert. Your poem is the type of poetry I love/enjoy reading. It's easily understood "as I read it" without having to analyze it to try & figure out what you, the author, are saying/conveying & it rhymes & flows beautifully. A fav'. Congrats & very deserved! All the best. :) ~ Artsie

:) Robert, you & I are on the same page, only instead of puzzles, I call them riddles. If I want to read & try to figure out a riddle, I'll read a riddle! I've thought about sponsoring a contest, but the judging of must be extremely difficult. Deciding who's work makes the cut & who's doesn't isn't a position I'd like. :) ~ Artsie

Thank you so much, Artsie! And thanks for considering it worthy of a win. I try to "keep it simple" I am turned off by poems you have to analyze and puzzle over - I like to read poetry for pleasure and not have to scratch my skull over what the writer is trying to convey. Look forward to participating in other contests you may sponsor - Bob

Well, Bob, the Master Poet has prevailed again. Congratulations on this fine win. I have, for a long time, admired your way with words. I am humbled by your talent and I thank our Lord and Savior for putting us together on Soup. Although we never served together during our respective Air Force careers, I feel there is a kindred spirit that exists between us. That is Him at work in the lives of two men who sought to serve God and Country in a capacity unlike any other. I'm grateful for that
