Soldiers' Obituaries

This morning's paper arrived and I settled down to peruse, The latest in local, national and international news. While I relaxed with a cup of steaming coffee near, Some across the land heard door bells chime with dread and fear. I turned the pages slowly dreading what I might see. Alas, there were photos of young soldiers peering back at me. Brave and gallant warriors who gave all on the field of strife, Defending liberty and the American way of life. Valiant patriots volunteered, leaving family and friends behind, To bring peace to you and me and all of humankind. They laid down their lives that others might live free, Upholding The Constitution and the tenets it does guarantee. They came from diverse backgrounds, religions and races, Some all too young, with only peach fuzz on their faces. They were stars on athletic teams, excelled in academics too. The years they spent among us were, alas, all to few. Ordinary citizens achieving extraordinary deeds, Championing the value of others, whatever their creeds. Families immensely proud of their soldiers, tho' heavy-hearted, Consoled by God's Plan, that He for their dear ones charted. Robert L. Hinshaw, CMSgt, USAF, Retired (© All Rights Reserved)
