Soft-Boiled Egg

Baek Gyerim

Like a tangerine peeled clean of its white skin,
the soft-boiled yolk,
your hidden flesh, ready to burst at a touch.

Afraid I might hurt you if I reach too close,
I gently lay my warm breath
upon that tender softness.

As though biting into flesh
where a tangy fragrance spreads,
in a room meant for only two,
the night deepens, rich with flavor.

You are my most secret promise.
