Societal Dream
Hiding behind a mask of smiles,
False eyelashes veil the truth.
A woman's heart born to exile.
Her lipstick stains the forbidden fruit.
At night, she laughs as she staggers.
Alone in the dark tears do fall.
The hurt she's felt, the mirror shattered.
Her constant lies the worst pain of all.
Behind the curtain, a beautiful mind.
Corrupted to please those around.
Gripped to the core by cultured vines.
Her well grown garden, frozen ground.
An intelligent though kept at bay.
A meal needed yet never eaten.
How could a woman ever live this way?
Sky high hopes always defeated.
Until one day, when time has passed.
The wanting dam breaks to flowing.
She rips from her soul the societal task,
To reveal a dream, gloriously glowing.
