Notes About The Poem

Last night at a spoken word event I was asked if I'd like to share. While I don't have stage fright I do have a feeling of discomfort in social group mixer situations. This poem is me unwrapping that Pandora's box.

Social Phobia

So last night I did a thing
Only to chicken out at the end
Crowds usually I’m avoiding
In this circumstance I can’t blend
Amethyst heart beats so fast
Luckily you can’t see that

Poets like me who bleed indigo ink
Hoping to overcome fears with dreams
Onyx fears of social situations
Being paranoid of simple salutations
In my mind I plan to purple persevere
And in reality I gotta get out of here
