Social Media

Theres a place called Facebook
   out in cyber space
Where you must have really thick skin
   but you need no face

People take your words
   and twist them all asunder
Spitting comments back at you
   that really make you wonder

You never meant to anger
but it seems that you still do
I guess it all really depends
on how they see your views

They can take your words personal
though they aren't meant to be
Then blow all up about
the things they think they see

But when you try to tell them
they took your words all wrong
Some continue making comments
   singing the same old song

Tone of voice and body language
   are vacant in this place
We are all just typing words
   out into cyberspace

Too many times misunderstood
   can really make me crazy
But I won't change every word I write
I guess I'm much too lazy

I don't need all the drama
that seems to gather in this place
I much prefer to spend my time
   talking face to face.

One of the reasons I don't use facebook. I had an account once a few years ago few only about a month, that was enough for me. I think I'll just stick to poetry sites. :) Because...with poetry as well written and as cool as this one was, who needs anything else. :)

Thank You Chris :) I do enjoy scrolling though and seeing photos of family I'd otherwise not see. I can kind of keep up.... otherwise I'd not know anything about many of them. Like I said previously, my family is BIG and growing. There were 3 babies born just in the last 6 months ... whew. But as for the rest of it, it can be a mess to see.

I am a happy FB user But I must say that I hammered it shut with privacy. Have a limited number of friends whom i all personally know from either Soup or my gay writers/abused boys support group. So I never have any problems. I am really sorry you had such bad experience Lenna. It did however make for a wonderful poem :)

Well, to be honest, most of the bad fights I've seen, weren't involving me, they were friends or family (my family is quite large) on my friends list. Many were so bad and people got deleted and/or blocked ... some permanently. Nice to hear you haven't had any of these problems Darren. Thank You for your compliment on my poem :)

Nice to see a Walker walk the talk! The Bee Gees sang, "Its only words, and words are all I have, to take your heart away", but the dark side of the internet has transformed words into prey!

I love your opinion on Fb it is very similar to mine! I had an account purely so i could enter an on line poetry contest but I have never used it since. I call it 2facedbook and have written a poem about a local lass who committed suicide as a result of on line bullying:-( hugs jan xx7

Hi Jan :) Thank You. I have heard about(and seen)some really nasty fights on there that began as misunderstandings, but spiraled out so far as to create huge divides in friendships and family members. That is sad but true about the bullying :( My kids had me join years ago, so we could exchange photos quickly and chat in real time. I do enjoy the real time exchange with people I know, but many aspects of FB just irk me to no end. I don't spend much time there, and I keep it private. BTW, I love your name for it :) :)
