Soaring

I look up in the sky
and see the glow of the moon
on a wispy cold winter night
I close my eyes
and hear the howls of the wolves
I feel like I'm in a story
spinning round and round
in a gush of air
just taking it all in
I wish I could be swept away
to find an adventure
I feel the ground slip from within my reach
slow steady breaths
in this bitter cold
I feel the chill of my bones
but it feels refreshing
as if I'm being cleansed
still spinning round and round
I feel myself land
on unstable ground
I open my eyes
I haven't moved
but my mind and heart have been lifted by the clouds
I see them leaving me
saying "it will be alright
we'll be reunited shortly
we'll let you know where we land
and you can come follow"
I bid them farewell as I watch them go
I trust that they have my best interest
I still stand stuck to the ground
I feel happy
and believe their words
I continue my slow steady breaths
taking in the cold air
with a faint smile on my face
