So It Goes

SO IT GOES
We've heard that so it goes, and all is vain
that everything just happens come what may,
that nothing's worth the time, or all the pain
and everything just passes, anyway;

if so it goes, and we have no control
and evil's just a thing that comes along
then what's the use in setting any goal
or teaching good and bad, or right and wrong?

What is the use if there is nothing more
than what we have right now, and here at hand
what good is there in ever planning for
a better way than one already planned?

How sad to think a generation knows
no more than all is now, and so it goes.
